Day 10 | Some me time

When I found out that D would be away filming Friday to Sunday this weekend, I considered inviting friends over for dinner and to have a girly weekend. Instead I’ve had a ‘me’ weekend.

Looking back over the last few months I haven’t had much time to myself. I’ve been around people every minute of the day (almost) and it’s been lovely, but there’s a lot to digest from last year and a lot to ponder about for this year. The though of having a quiet weekend where I had no obligations but to just be and do, eat, drink and watch what ever I wanted to, was very appealing. So, I did just that. Quite the luxury.

Relaxing can take many shapes and sometimes doing things that would normally be considered work or chores, can actually be relaxing. That’s what this weekend has been about. After the frenzy in the run up to Christmas I have a stack of things to catch up on and other things I really want to do. Like get that UX fika website off the ground and kick off the events, and put the final touches on my book proposal.

Last year I constantly felt like I was one step behind and it didn’t do me any good in terms of feeling motivated and in control. One of my biggest learnings from last year is to stop doing so much of the day to day stuff with Glimt.it and focus my time where I add the most value. In order to do that, some extra planning and prep need to take place and that’s also what I’ve partly been doing this weekend.

None of it has been taxing. I’ve marathon watched House of Cards season 2 whilst doing some housekeeping on Glim.it, gone for a long run, sketched and mocked up UX fika, cleared the front garden and done the laundry. I’ve chatted to my family on the phone, given myself a full body scrub, dyed away the grey in my hair and painted my nails. It’s been lovely and it feels great to start off next week all prepared instead of one step behind. That was so last year.
