Day 209 | London 2012 begins

There’s been a notable change in people here in London the last week. As the Games have drawn closer the excitement and anticipation has been building and with that the proudness that many of us are feeling to live in a city that will be the first to ever host the Summer Olympics 3 times.

Today was the Opening Ceremony and the excitement around finally finding out what Danny Boyle had produced was running high. Those who went to the dress rehearsal said that it would be amazing and so did those who participated. But the details of what would actually take place was pretty much kept quiet. Using the hashtag #savethesurprise everyone was encourage to keep what they knew a secret as to not spoil it. Danny Boyle, the man himself who produced the Opening Ceremony, made a plea to all those who went to the rehearsals saying how privileged they were to see it and asked that photos, videos and details weren’t shared until after the actual Opening Ceremony. And his plea worked. Those how have participated and had an early glimpse were truly part of something special and from what the media is saying they felt it, which made keeping their secrets easier.

As for the ceremony itself it made most over here feel even prouder to live in London and this country. For the remaining 16 days the world is coming together across borders and disputes, competing against each other, making their countries proud and as the slogan goes – Inspiring a generation.

Welcome to London.
