Day 180 | Post holiday tiredness
It could be the one hour time difference between Sweden and the UK but I suspect it’s an unlikely cause for my tiredness at the moment. Come 9.30pm in the evening and I’m ready for bed.

There are certain projects and certain times in a project where being more observant of how you communicate, in written form and spoken is required. Not the least because tiredness and stress can make people a bit more sensitive, or with a slightly shorter fuse than normal.

There are certain situations when time matters more and where lack of information causes unnecessary annoyance and waste of time. In the last week and a bit I’ve experience two such situations where simple alerts could have more or less avoided them.

There is a constant inner battle in me about Sweden and my future. Though moving back is not on the agenda I’ve been wanting to spend more time at home for a while and now it’s starting to look up.

Half of this week has been spent in Sweden seeing friends and family and celebrating midsummer. With that a few days have been taken out of the calendar from doing work. But it’s safe to say that I needed some time off.

As always I planned to write these posts whilst I was away but with going from one place to the next and not always having an internet connection (and quite frankly very few minutes in the day to myself and to write), I decided to give posting these a rest

Yesterday was the longest day of the year and today it’s Midsommar, a very Swedish tradition and the reason I’ve gone back home this weekend.

When we’re deep into something, be it work or personal issues, it’s easy to forget that one day can be completely different from the next. Yesterday I spent 14 hours in the office. Today I’ve been swimming in the sea in South Sweden.

It’s the day before I’m due to head home for a few days and I’m working late in the office again. Though the washing is done the bag isn’t packed. My flight leaves at 6.50am. I won’t be getting a lot of sleep.

Yesterday I got an email that had a bit of a “sticking it to me” undertone to my personal email address. It was from someone who’d previously contacted me about wanting to chat about working together.

This coming Thursday is the longest day of the year and that morning I’m off to Sweden for 6 days to celebrate Midsommar and have a little bit of time away with friends and family.

Hourly wages and the classic 40-hour work week have trained us to measure our labor by the number of hours we log. However, this mindset is dead wrong when applied to today’s professionals. […] smart leaders realize that the only way they can succeed is by getting the most out

Each week at the moment seems to feel like two. I look back over the posts I’ve written and continuously catch myself going “Was that this week!?”

One of the things driving us at byflock is creating a working environment where you want to work and be involved. It’s as much about the workplace itself as the culture that surrounds it.

Today Sweden played England in Euro 2012. Naturally I’d hoped we’d win but not this time. I don’t normally watch football but during big tournaments I get quite interested, and even more so when it’s a game against the country I live in.

Last week I wrote about work taking over my life and how I kept shifting from being ok with it to being in a bad mood. At the start of this week I’d worked late again and when D came home I was in a bit of a bad mood.

One of the core things behind byflock is getting like minded people together who are really passionate about what they do and who want to work collaboratively and push things. Shape and challenge.

Our first batch of business cards more or less ran out during SXSW and we’re currently in the process of ordering some new ones.

Despite the heavy rain that continued all through the night and kept waking me up, I got up and managed to get the tasks I set for byflock done this morning before I headed to work.

At the start of this week I mentioned that it’s the first time I’ve had a week off from byflock. This week there’s been a little bit of progress but in general, I am feeling the benefits of some time off.
